Port
Jefferson Country Club was established in 1908 on the North shore of Long
Island. On October 13, 1956, Harbor Hills Country Club golf course, designed
by Alfred T. Hull, opened its 145 acre, 6,800 yard championship course. The
18 hole course includes several holes from the original Alexander Findlay
and Devereux Emmet designs, located on the same property. The golf course is
rich in tradition and history and played competitively by the members daily.
Responsibilities:
The
Superintendent will be responsible for preparing and implementing a program
of course improvements and maintenance. The Superintendent directly reports
to the Director of Golf, in coordination with the Greens Chairman. He or she
will be responsible for all aspects of the maintenance of the golf course,
practice facility, tennis courts, maintenance equipment, golf cart fleet and
all open spaces and wooded areas. Development and accountability for
operating and capital budgets is also required. The Superintendent will be
responsible for the training and productivity of the staff
Qualifications:
Port
Jefferson is seeking an individual with an outstanding record and
reputation. Expected is direct experience with conditions in the Northeast
region, including its turf types and requirements. At least 5 years
experience as a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent at a high profile
golf course with proven results in maintaining top quality conditions is
required. Candidates should have a BS in Agronomy Horticulture or equivalent
academic degree. We require a pesticide application license as issued by NYS.
The candidate ideally is a golfer who can experience the course from a
player’s perspective. Excellent communication skills with staff, membership
and the management team are required both verbally as well as written. He or
she must be familiar with and able to conform to environmental regulations,
be computer literate and must be of the highest personal integrity with a
strong work ethic.
Compensation:
Salary will
be commensurate with experience.
